Group Control Lets You Control Multiple Lights As One

Govee lights can group together using Bluetooth, which means you can control multiple devices at once. But, the lights you want to group need to be close enough to each other so they can connect to each other via Bluetooth.

Group Control makes it easier to manage your lights, but I don’t usually use it. Instead, I’ve set up several Tap-to-Run scenes to control my lights and set up Auto-Runs. If you’re interested in learning more, check out this guide: Easily Control Multiple Lights in One Tap with Tap-to-Run

Same-Model Group Control

This type of Group Control allows you to group together lights within the same model and has the lower amount of limitations on controls. Same-Model Group allows you to use Color, Scene, Illumination, Music and DIY modes.

Basic Group Control

This type of Group Control allows you to group any mix of lights that you would like to control, but there is a high limitation on the options you have for your lights. When you use Basic Group Control it basically locks down your options for the group of lights to Same Color, Multiple Color Rotation, or mic Music Control.

Since different models do not have access to the same features Basic Group Control is heavily limited. This is why I mentioned earlier that I do not use this feature. I highly recommend checking out Tap-to-Run scenes instead. See this guide: Easily Control Multiple Lights in One Tap with Tap-to-Run

How to Setup Group Control

  1. In the Govee Home app go to the Shortcuts screen by taping on the second icon at the bottom (circle with 4 swirls around)
  2. Tap on the Feature Hub button (3 squares and one circle) in the top right
  3. Tap on “Group” then tap on “Create” to make a new Group scene.
  4. Choose your type of Group that you would like to create.
  5. Use the check boxes to select the lights that you would like to group together.
    • When creating a Same-Model Group after selecting your first product, different model lights are no longer selectable
  6. Tap on the Pencil icon to edit the Name of the Group of lights.
  7. Your Group will now be shown at the bottom of the Shortcuts screen.
